My Story
When I was five, I was diagnosed with an Arterial Vein Malformation (AVM) in my left arm. This diagnosis played a major part in my childhood and continues to be part of my life. I have experienced first-hand how a single diagnosis or challenge impacts multiple aspects of a person. My diagnosis was accompanied not only by various hospitalizations and medical tests, but anxiety and stress, pain, limits in my physical ability, self consciousness, fear, frustration, and doubt. These experiences led me to be hyper-aware of my own physical and mental health and to become interested in wellness.
I was trained as a classical musician and became part of the performing world at just 4 years old. I had to learn at a young age how to manage a busy schedule between sports, school, music, and social time, as well as work through anxiety, medical issues, and insecurities about my skills. As I was working towards my undergraduate degree in cello performance, I realized that I wanted to explore other avenues in music besides performing. I became interested in music publishing and interned at multiple music publishing companies in NYC. While interning, I began to realize that I was not fulfilled by this career path. Even though I was utilizing my creativity, I missed creating music with others and having a direct human connection. As I re-considered what I wanted to do with my life, I realized that I wanted a career that encompassed my desire to be creative, develop relationships with others, and help individuals optimize their unique potentials and health.
On a subway ride, I had an “a-ha!” moment and realized that I could combine my love for the arts and working with others, and decided to pursue a career as a creative arts therapist. While I worked as a music therapist and psychotherapist, I found the field of life coaching and completed my Life Coaching certification. Since being a part of the coaching community, I am constantly amazed at how the coaching process can support self discovery, generate solutions & strategies, clarify one’s purpose, hold accountability, and increase motivation and confidence. I have completed Creativity Coaching coursework with Dr. Eric Maisel through the Creativity Coaching Association.
